COOKING UP PIZZA ON THE WATERS EDGE IN WYNDHAM HARBOUR

An unused helipad located on a seawall at one of the fastest growing precincts on Melbourne’s outskirts seemed like the perfect location for a pizza restaurant – so thought our clients Wyndham Marina Developments. Having just engaged the team from Bank Street Wood Fired Pizza and Gardens to join this venture, the project was a perfect blend of skills between developers and restaurateurs to create a popular and unique venue for the region.

THE CLIENT

OHANA was built in conjunction with Resolutions Property Group, Mr Portables and Shape Landscape. With the Bank Street crew taking over the full operation of the site once built, BEST. worked closely with them to develop all OHANA brand assets which carries a sea farer design ID and tone.

THE APPROACH

BEST. was engaged to work on all design development and documentation for the site, the most challenging part of the brief was the knowledge that the venue may need to be relocated at any stage. The project also needed to designed, built and delivered in under 12 weeks.

The design resulted in three 40-foot and a single 20-foot shipping container, into a fully functioning pizza restaurant, that was able to withstand the battering of being located directly on a bay. It’s name OHANA.

 

What I love, besides the way it looks, is that space is efficient and most of all functional. To create a worker-friendly kitchen and bar in only 2x12 meters of space, which also homes the behemoth Polito 1600 pizza oven is a freaking miracle. I don’t know how they managed it.
